Clean-Energy.us Summary

PowerPoint providing an update on operations at Eastman Chemical Company's coal gasification plant in Kingsport, Tennessee. States that Eastman's biggest challenge in 2004 is the quantity, quality, and price of central Appalachian coal. Price more than doubled between March 2003 and September 2004. Poor coal quality was most frequent cause of unplanned outages. With a "hot spare" gasifier always available, the Eastman gasification system was online 98% of the time during the three year period ending on Aug. 31, 2004. Eastman facility is now operating for three years between planned shutdowns.

States that Eastman R&D is focused on three areas: (1) an online coal analyzer; (2) hot gas cleanup; and (3) improving injectors and refractories.
