Puertollano

Spanish gasification plant produces almost 300 MWe of electricity from coal and pet coke.

The Puertollano plant is a 298 MW (net) IGCC owned and operated by Elcogas, a consortium of eight major European utilities and three technology suppliers. The project is situated in Puertollano, in the Province of Ciudad Real, 200 km south of Madrid. The plant utilizes a unique gasifier (Prenflo ), which is an entrained-flow, oxygen-blown system with dry fuel feeding. The fuel mixture is 50% coal and 50% petroleum coke (by weight). Some 2,600 metric tons of fuel are used per day. The project was selected as Target Project by the European Commission and awarded funding by the THERMIE program.
