Wabash River

Global Energy and PSI Energy's Wabash River plant has been producing electricity since 1995.

The Wabash River clean coal project was selected by the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) to receive federal support for demonstration of a state-of-the-art coal gasification process. Joint venture participants, PSI Energy and Destec Energy successfully deployed an energy-efficient technology that removes more than 97% of the SO2 and 82% of the NOx from the stack emissions.

Today, Cinergy purchases, on average, more than 900 billion BTUs of synthetic coal gas per month from the gasification plant, now owned by Global Energy, Inc. The clean-burning fuel fires a 192 MW combustion turbine and a 105 MW steam turbine in a combined cycle mode located at the company’s Wabash River Station.
